Mens Skin Care Routine – Yes Men Need It Too!

Uncategorized

While the majority of women are familiar with proper skin care and how it should be the holy grain in having beautiful skin, mens skin care shouldn’t be overlooked. Just like any woman, a man’s skin needs proper care too. It ages, it gets wrinkled over time, it can have sun damage, which means skin care doesn’t choose any genders. Because men’s skin is far more different than a woman’s, the routine and products to be used may be slightly different.

The good thing though is that skin care doesn’t have to be complicated at all. There are two important things that one has to take note of when it comes to men’s skin care routine, and these are:

1. Cleansing

A man’s skin is approximately 25% thicker than a woman’s due to testosterone, which means that a woman’s facial wash may not do as good as those cleansing washes that are specifically formulated for men. Because men’s facial structures are slightly different than a woman’s, this includes the presence of facial hair, this means that for a facial wash to be able to do its job properly in “cleansing” the skin, men need a slightly tougher formulation to thoroughly cleanse their skin.

Make sure that you choose a product that is meant for your skin type, and do this twice a day – one in the morning and one before going to bed. Use warm water to dampen your skin and gently lather your facial wash for about 30 seconds. Warm water slightly opens up the pores ensuring that skin is thoroughly cleansed.

When lathering your face, make sure that you do this in a circular, upward motion. We don’t want to further help gravity in pulling your skin downwards, which causes skin sagging and wrinkles. Rinse with cold water to close up those pores. Tap your face with a towel – do not rub as we don’t want premature skin wrinkling.

2. Moisturizing

Men’s face is usually oily as compared to women. While moisturizing your face may seem like the last thing you’d want, especially if you have oily skin, this just dictates that your skin tells you otherwise. Oily skin just means that your skin is producing more sebum than normal to compensate for the dry skin. If you’re unsure, you can always go with moisturizers that are non-comedogenic, which means they won’t clog the pores.

If you’re concerned about feeling sticky, choose lightweight moisturizers or plant-based oils so you don’t have to worry about feeling sticky all day.

3. Sun Protection

Sun damage is one of the common causes of premature skin aging and wrinkles – so regardless of your gender, using sunblock is non-negotiable. Just like when looking for moisturizers, you can always opt for lightweight sunblocks that won’t feel sticky even when used all throughout the day.

Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated at all. Mens skin care is about making sure skin is clean, moisturized and protected from the sun. When looking for products, make sure that you opt for higher quality ones. We don’t want to be using low-quality skin care products that could just do more damage than good. It doesn’t necessarily mean the products need to be more expensive – it just needs to be proven effective and of better quality. Surely, with the right amount of research, you’ll find the right products that are suited for your needs and skin type.
